Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Adoption Fee: 200. Meet Dottie! Born around January 25, 2025, and coming to us from a cruelty case in Hamilton County, Dottie is the perfect blend of sweetheart and spitfire — a happy, social, silly girl who brings joy (and laughter!) everywhere she goes. Dottie absolutely loves to play, especially with her foster sister Pearl. The two of them wrestle, zoom in and out of the dog door like little maniacs, and can keep the fun going for hours. If you’re looking for a pup with a great sense of adventure and plenty of energy, Dottie is your girl! Inside the home, she’s a curious youngster who keeps everyone entertained. She’s mastered the dog door, does well being left loose in the main areas of the house, and is doing great with her house training. Just remember — she’s still a puppy! Dottie is known for “borrowing” shoes, socks, and the occasional roll of toilet paper, and she’s not above a little counter surfing if food is left within reach. With typical puppy supervision and a home that keeps tempting items picked up, she’ll continue to thrive. Dottie walks nicely on a leash (she takes cues from her foster sister) and loves exploring the woods and trails. She’s friendly with new people, curious about the world, and shows appropriate caution when she hears or sees something unfamiliar. Off leash on the trails, she sticks with the group and follows the pack beautifully. She rides well in the car, enjoys bath time, and sleeps soundly at the foot of the bed all night long. She hasn’t been officially tested with cats indoors, but when she has seen them on walks, she shows curiosity rather than reactivity. Dottie has lots of puppy energy but settles beautifully after a good walk or play session. Give her some exercise and affection, and she’ll curl up for a long, peaceful nap. If you’re looking for a loving, social, playful young pup who will grow into an amazing companion, Dottie is ready to steal your heart — and maybe your shoes! Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
