Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Terrier / Mixed. 2-year-old neutered male Boxer mix Medium size High energy Evidence of housetraining Keylo is just your prototypical shelter dog who will entertain you and love you forever. He doesn't know a stranger and loves the attention! He has great energy and eagerly accepts walks but pulls a little when walking. With some leash training a frequent walks he will do great. He would really love a fenced in backyard to run when not out for walks. 2-year-old neutered male Boxer mix, arrived at the shelter on 9/23/25 as a stray. LONGEST RESIDENT!!!!! Medium size High energy Consistent evidence of housetraining Keylo has matured at the shelter from a mouthy, puppyish young adult dog to a far more mannerly and easy-to-handle dog. He has had multiple positive interactions with dogs outside and giving him this opportunity may have given him an outlet for his energy. Keylo would still love a yard to run in, but he is very human-focused and probably wouldn’t stray far from his person. The Henrico Police Animal Shelter is accessible by appointment only. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
