Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Welcome Petra – Brave ACC Survivor Petra’s story is one of courage and second chances. At just 1 year old, this sweet girl was abandoned as a stray—left to fend for herself alongside her “mom” and four tiny pups. Thanks to our amazing community, this little family is now safe, and Petra’s hardest days are finally behind her. Now resting comfortably in Binghamton, Petra is blossoming! She’s a happy, affectionate girl who loves attention, gets along wonderfully with other dogs and kids, and would prefer a kitty-free home. Petra is ready to start her next chapter—one filled with love, comfort, and security. Could that be with you? Let’s show Petra that her new life—filled with love and safety—starts now. All of our animals are examined by a veterinarian, given age-appropriate vaccinations, de-wormed, microchipped, spayed or neutered, heart-worm tested, and treated if necessary. Vet references and a home/family visit are required, and an adoption fee applies. Transport options are available within our area of operation, including Pennsylvania, the tri-state area, and New England. Please note we do not adopt animals into Canada. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
