Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois. Our Sweet Odette Odette came to the shelter sick, scared, and unsure, but MAD saw the gentle soul beneath it all. Thanks to our wonderful volunteer Katie Odette was pulled from the shelter and given the chance she so desperately needed. Odette has since been diagnosed with EPI (Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency). While it’s something she’ll manage long-term, with the right diet, enzymes, and B12 supplements, Odette can live a happy life with great quality — and we’re already seeing that progress! She’s had a tough road and spent quite some time feeling unwell, but we are thrilled to share that things are finally on the upswing. Odette has gained weight, is feeling stronger, and has officially decided that vet visits are overrated . Most importantly, we see hope in her eyes again — and that means everything. Here’s what her amazing foster has to say about her: “This girl is like warm honey. She melts right into you, laying over you and soaking up every bit of affection. She’s ‘sticky’ in the best way — always close, always watching with her soft, melty eyes. She has an easy recall and will sit just to make eye contact. She enjoys playing fetch and is working on her release. Tug is one of her favorite games. Odette isn’t ready for long runs just yet — her return to fitness is its own journey — but she’s thoughtful and steady. She’s incredibly easy to introduce to new people and dogs. She’s a thinker. Show her something once, and she’ll start applying that concept everywhere. Sit at one door? That means every door, gate, and even getting in and out of the truck. Her future family will need to be ready for a true thinking partner.” Odette is gentle, intuitive, affectionate, and incredibly smart — a soul dog in the making. We’re so grateful for everyone who helped her get to this point, and we can’t wait to share what’s next for this beautiful girl. Stay tuned for more updates — we’re hopeful this sweet girl will find her forever home very soon! Odette's adoption is sponsored! Reached out to us for more questions! Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
