Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Fideo is a sweet, affectionate dog who enjoys human company. He lights up when he sees his people and is always happy for the chance to spend time outside the shelter kennel. During a recent short-term foster stay, Fideo proved to be an easy and delightful houseguest. He settled in quickly, happily rotating between impressive power naps and enthusiastic toy time. He slept through the night without a peep, enjoyed his crate, and appeared to be reliably potty trained. Fideo coexisted very well with the resident small dog while in foster and has shown friendly, relaxed behavior when seeing other dogs pass by on walks. Shelter life has been a bit hard on him physically to the point where he developed minor pressure sores on his wrists from resting on the concrete floor, so he has been receiving some extra TLC while healing. What would help most, though, is a home environment with a soft, comfortable place to rest. Fideo is an affectionate, easygoing companion who enjoys walks, toys, and simply being near his people. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
