Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Meet Gravy – the Extra Sauce Your Life Is Missing! Looking to add a little flavor to your life? Say hello to Gravy, a 1 year old, 50 pound, playful, goofy good boy who’s always ready to bring the fun! Gravy is full of energy and enthusiasm and would love a home with a 6 foot fenced yard where he can safely zoom, romp, and play to his heart’s content. Gravy is a happy, social pup who gets along great with other dogs, cats, and children—he’s basically everyone’s friend. He’s very playful and sometimes gets so excited that he needs a little redirection when playtime is over, but he’s learning more every day and wants to do the right thing. This guy walks nicely on a leash, is housebroken and crate trained and already knows a few basic commands like “sit” and “go to bed.” He’s still learning, but he’s eager to please and getting better all the time. Gravy does love his food and can be a bit food-possessive, so he’ll do best with a family who understands that and can help him continue working on good mealtime manners. If you’re looking for a fun-loving companion with a big personality and an even bigger heart, Gravy might just be your perfect match. Come meet him and see if this sweet boy is the missing ingredient in your life! If you are interested in adding Gravy to your family, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at .freedomgermanshepherdrescue. Gravy is being fostered outside of Raleigh, NC.

German Shepherd Dog

A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
