Description
Dog Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Delilah came to the shelter on 6/20/25 after her owner passed away and family members were unable to take her in. She is a happy, energetic girl with a big personality who would do best in a home with older children. In playgroup, Delilah is selective with other dogs, offering greetings and appropriate corrections and occasionally showing mild assertiveness, but she remains respectful and especially enjoys spending time in the pool. Volunteers consistently describe her as easy to leash, walking with a moderate pull, and loving to run and play in the yard. She is very affectionate, happily rolling over for belly rubs, and is highly treat-motivatedâoften giving an endearing look when returning to her kennel in hopes of a reward. Known as a âhouse hippoâ by staff and volunteers, Delilah is a joyful, fun-loving dog who would thrive in an active home ready to give her the engagement and companionship she deserves.

Overview:
The American Pit Bull Terrier (APBT) is a robust and intelligent breed, originating in the United States from crossbreeding Old English Terriers and Old English Bulldogs for dog-fighting purposes. Physically, they are medium-sized, known for their muscular build, broad heads, and powerful jaws, typically weighing between 30-60 pounds. Their coats are short and come in a wide array of colors. Temperamentally, a well-socialized APBT is often described as loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented, displaying a playful and sometimes clownish demeanor. They can be excellent family companions, provided they receive consistent training and early socialization, though their high energy levels mean they thrive with active owners. While they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient exercise, a house with a secure yard is often preferred. Notable health considerations include a predisposition to hip and elbow dysplasia, allergies, and certain heart conditions.
