Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Hi there! My name is Jax, I'm a darling Senior boy at approx 9 years old, and a perfect size at 19 pounds! I'm super chill, I love going for gentle walks, and I will snuggle with you as much as you want! I've lived with cats and dogs and older kids and I am cool with all of them. My foster mama is working with me on house training, so a consistent schedule would be wonderful for me to continue to learn the art of the outdoor potty world. Underdogs has lots of helpful training resources for you too if you need them! My Cali foster, (where I was first rescued from a very overcrowded shelter where a Senior like me never would have stood a chance) told me I was one of her favorite dogs but not to tell her other doggies and kitties. I told her thank you and that I'm good at keeping secrets. As I am an Elder Underdog, I do have some things that come with age, like some cataracts starting to form, and my teeth have a light tarter on them and they just need to be checked to see if and when it might be time for a dental. I have some stiff joints and I've been taking some gabapentin for that and it helps me a lot! Some joint supplements might be nice too. I also have stage 2 kidney disease and that can be kept in check with special food. I just have those old dog stuff going on. That said, I'm chill, I'm adorable and I love to love my people. I'm really good at it! Are you ready to bring me home? You won't regret it! Underdogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations and preventatives. Adoption fee is $280. We also have a special program called The Elders of Underdogs where we match senior humans with senior dogs for a low adoption rate of $75! Jax is being fostered in Portland, OR. Jax will come with a few months supply of food and his current joint medication. You MUST have an Underdogs Rock Rescue application on file to request a meet with an Underdog. An online Underdogs Rock adoption application can only be accessed at underdogsrock/adopt-a-dog . You must be available to meet an Underdog in their foster's location and dogs are not held for applicants or shipped outside of the Portland metro area. Home checks are also part of the process and will be conducted virtually or in person. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
