Description
Dog Breed: Hound. I'm Dexter and I was found as a stray. I'm estimated to be about a year old so I'm still very much a puppy! I was very thin when I was found but since coming to the shelter I have started to put on some weight with regular meals. I am a happy boy who has a typical hound bark. I love dog friends! I could play all day so if you have a dog probably one who like to play just as much as I do will be best. An older dog would most likely get tired of my energy quickly. I meet a cat here and at first I couldn't figure it out but when I did I defiantly wanted to see if it would run and when it didn't I did my typical hound bark but the cat still didn't want to be my friend. I would for sure chase a cat if given the chance! Speaking of my bark I have a loud one. If you love the sound of my breed then you will defiantly love my sound! I am such a lover boy as well. I love to be loved on and have a very loving playful personality. I would make a great addition to most homes but probably not apartment living, a country home would do best so that your neighbors don't have to hear me!Give the shelter a call at (574) 267-3008 or email them at infoawlwarsaw if you have any questions about me! If not, stop by the shelter at 1048 S 325 E in Pierceton, IN 46562 to look at me! No appointments necessary!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
