Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Meet Dexter ! He is approx. 5-6 years old and a Chihuahua mix with what we think might be a Dachshund, he weighs 12 lbs. He and Coco and Ethel (already adopted) (in the photos too ), had a good home life living all together until their mom passed away. None of them are related but all get a long great. Coco & Dex ter can be adopted together but do not have to be. However they would love to have a friend at home to hang out with, it is not a must though. As far as we know they have never lived as an only fur baby. He is working on house breaking and is doing great with an occasional accident. He is crate trained with no accidents in the crate . Never been seen around cats or kids. We do suggest a home with a dog savvy cat and kids over 10 year of age. He does have a front leg deformity that causes no pain and the vets think it has been there for life. This animal is current on all age appropriate vaccines, dewormed, microchipped, and spayed/neutered or will go home with an already scheduled appointment. They have also been given flea prevention. Adoption fee is $350.00. If you are interested in adopting this pet please fill out an application. .ajssearchandrescue/adoption-application

Breed overview
Overview:
The Chiweenie, an adorable and increasingly popular designer breed, is a delightful cross between the spirited Chihuahua and the charming Dachshund. Originating in the United States, these small companions inherited a unique blend of traits from their parent breeds. Physically, they typically possess a long, low body reminiscent of the Dachshund, combined with the often-large ears and expressive eyes of the Chihuahua. Their coats can vary widely in color and texture, from short and smooth to long and wiry. Temperamentally, Chiweenies are known for being loyal, affectionate, and surprisingly energetic. They often exhibit a playful and sometimes stubborn streak, making early socialization and training beneficial. Their small size makes them well-suited for apartment living and families with older children or individuals seeking a devoted lapdog. While generally robust, potential health considerations include issues common to their parent breeds, such as patellar luxation and intervertebral disc disease, making regular veterinary check-ups important for their long-term well-being.
