Description
Dog Breed: Belgian Shepherd Malinois / Belgian Shepherd Malinois / Mixed. Blaze (Texas) is a sweet, social boy who absolutely adores people. His favorite thing in the world is retrieving a ball—he could play fetch for hours and be the happiest dog around! He’s very affectionate, loves being near his humans, and is wonderful with kids. He’s also not mouthy, which makes him easy to interact with. Blaze prefers to be part of the family throughout the day and can feel anxious when left alone for long periods, so a home where someone is around more often would help him thrive. Because he has a strong prey drive, a home without cats (or small wildlife to tempt him!) is best. He has previously been friendly with other dogs, especially those smaller than him, and has lived successfully with another Malinois. In his previous home, the combination of a low fence, lots of acreage, and multiple neighboring reactive dogs led to some barrier frustration—something many smart, energetic dogs experience when they’re under-stimulated or left outside too long. Blaze is a bright, eager-to-please dog, and with proper guidance, structure, and exercise, he can absolutely continue improving in this area. A MAD trainer will be assigned to support his training and set him up for success. Blaze can jump fences under 6 feet when he’s anxious or bored, especially if he’s left alone outside, so he’ll do best in a secure yard and in a home where he gets plenty of activity, enrichment, and companionship. He loves having a job, learning new things, and being part of the action—he’d likely enjoy a dog sport or fun training outlet to keep his mind and body engaged. He also has a great off-switch, especially if his "off time" is chilling next to his people! He is still young at 5 years old, neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccines, and ready for a family that will include him in daily life, give him love, and enjoy his playful, enthusiastic spirit. Blaze is a truly good dog who just wants to be with his people and have fun! Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
