Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Name: Cherry Garcia Age: ~2 years Location: Binghamton, NY Cherry Garcia was labeled “New Hope Only,” meaning rescue was his only chance. Found wandering alone, he needed someone to see beyond his past and give him a safe place to land. Now in a foster home, Cherry Garcia is learning what love feels like—and he’s thriving. He’s goofy, affectionate, and enjoys being around people. He does well with dogs, cats, and kids. Cherry recently had surgery to correct a cherry eye and will need a recheck. • Affectionate, social, and eager to bond • Dog-friendly, cat-friendly, kid-friendly • Continues to build confidence in foster care All of our animals receive comprehensive veterinary care prior to adoption, including a full exam, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, microchipping, spay or neuter, heartworm testing, and any necessary medical treatment. A vet reference, home and/or family visit, and an adoption fee are required. Transport options are available within our operating region, including Pennsylvania, the tri-state area, and New England. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
