Dog Breed: Terrier / Schnauzer / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $150. Jester has one of the sweetest, softest temperaments you’ll ever meet. Even after being abandoned on a busy country road, he stayed right where he was left… patiently waiting for the person who never came back. But fate had better plans. A teacher driving home from work spotted him — and then noticed his tiny sidekick, Jazz, close behind. The moment she opened her car door, both pups hopped right in as if they knew their lives were about to change. Now safe, loved, and finally able to exhale, Jester is ready for a family who will never leave him behind again. He’s gentle, trusting, and full of quiet gratitude — the kind of dog who reminds you how resilient hearts can be. Our volunteers will review each submitted application, then contact the top 3 most appropriate ones by either email or phone. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
