Description

Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever. Shadow is Loyal, Sweet, and Eager to Please. She is a lab mix with soulful eyes and a quiet strength. She and her sister Honey were found at a lake house, likely abandoned in a rural dumping area. Though initially shy, Shadow&#39s loyalty shines once she feels safe. Shadow and Honey are available for adoption as a pair or individually. Shadow follows the lead of others, gaining confidence as she warms up, which usually happens quickly, approaching with a wagging tail and lowered head. She is sweet-natured and well-mannered, especially for a young dog who&#39s lived outdoors. She&#39s accepted leashes, collars, car rides, and even wound care without hesitation. She&#39s friendly with other dogs and has bonded easily with both family and neighborhood pups. While she hasn&#39t been tested with kids or other animals, her gentle disposition suggests she&#39d do well. Shadow is spayed, vaccinated, and on monthly flea, tick, and heartworm prevention. She&#39s in good health and has handled vet visits like a champ. Shadow is affectionate, loyal, and ready to find a forever home where she can feel safe and loved. She thrives with companionship and would do especially well with another dog--or with Honey by her side. If you feel your home might be the right place for such a great dog - the place to start is with the adoption application found at .dfwrescueme/adopt. Once submitted, the foster will contact you promptly to tell you more and to arrange a time to meet! The adoption fee for all of our dogs is $300.00, which includes their vaccinations and spay/neuter. Shadow is participating in the DFW Rescue Me Guest Dog Program, so ongoing care and custody are provided by their foster, not by DFWRM.

Overview:

The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
