Meet Lucy, a sweet and energetic 2-year-old Border Terrier looking for a new home due to housing challenges. She has been in her current caregiver’s care for less than a month after coming from a family friend. About Lucy Breed: Border Terrier Age: 2 years Color: Grey / Off-white Gender: Female (not spayed) Vaccines: Up to date History: Has lived most of her life outdoors and may need help adjusting to an indoor routine. Living Situation: Primarily outdoors 4+ hours a day. Potty Trained: Unknown Crate Trained: Yes Behavior & Temperament Children: Friendly Visitors: Energetic, likes to jump, sometimes goes for people’s feet in excitement Handling/Sharing: Allows people to take food and toys Other Notes: Has lived most of her life in a backyard (not by choice) and will benefit from kindness, structure, and training as she learns what it’s like to live inside. All dogs have been been vaccinated with DHPP and Bordatella (kennel cough) and heartworm tested negative (if over 6 months). All cats have been vaccinated with FVRCP and current on flea control. Overview:
The Border Terrier, originating from the Anglo-Scottish border region, was bred to work alongside huntsmen, bolting foxes and other vermin. This small, hardy terrier possesses a distinctive "otter-like" head, a wiry, dense coat that provides excellent weather protection, and a lean, muscular build. Typically weighing between 11-15 pounds, they are incredibly agile and possess surprising stamina. Known for their alert and affectionate temperament, Border Terriers are generally good-natured and can be wonderful family pets, often getting along well with children and other animals when properly socialized. While adaptable, their natural inclination to dig and chase means secure fencing is essential. They can thrive in apartments if given sufficient daily exercise and mental stimulation. Health-wise, they are generally robust, but like many breeds, can be prone to certain conditions such as Canine Epileptoid Cramping Syndrome (CECS) and luxating patellas, making responsible breeding practices crucial.
