Dog Breed: Terrier / Terrier / Mixed. Autumn has been patiently waiting for her forever home. It’s honestly surprising that she hasn’t been adopted yet — she truly is the best kept secret. Autumn was found as a stray last summer and then spent six months in a board-and-train program. She is currently in a foster home where she is thriving. Autumn is a 1½-year-old terrier mix with the sweetest disposition. She is eager to please, cuddly, walks well on a leash, and loves to play with her toys. She certainly has her active moments, but for a young pup she can also be wonderfully chill. She enjoys long walks and playing with other four-legged friends. Autumn would do best in a home with teenagers or adults, as she is not a fan of young children. She is crate trained and reliably potty trained. True to her terrier nature, Autumn is bold, curious, independent, and full of personality. With continued structure, patience, and positive reinforcement, she has all the potential to grow into a confident, well-balanced companion. Autumn may need a little time to settle in, but once she trusts you, she is an absolute sweetheart. She’s waiting for someone who will offer her the stability, kindness, and understanding she deserves. Autumn is looking for a cat-free home with adults or teenagers where she can finally feel safe and loved. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
