Samson knew nothing about being a pet before coming to us. He was used just for stud and never held, cuddled, or loved. Everything is new to him, every sight, sound, or person. If you are chosen it will be your goal to make him the pet he should have been 7 yrs ago. Are you up to the challenge, please help him. The look in his eyes tells us he wants to be loved and to trust but it will take time and patience. Samson is doing great in his foster home with the cat and dachshund foster siblings. He is walking well on his leash and enjoys his walks around the neighborhood with the big dogs. Samson is working hard on his potty training and is doing well if kept on a schedule. Since coming into rescue, little guy has learned so much about being a pet and a member of the household, leaving his life and habits as a breeder dog behind. His foster mom tells us he is a great little traveling companion! BIO: Samson is a retired breeder dog who needs a patient, loving home where he can lay his head. Would that be you? He is a shy boy but with love and patience we know he can be the most loving little boy you have ever had. However, you need to have patience for him to come out of his shell and learn to be a pet not a breeder dog. You can see the longing in his eyes when you look at him. He wants to trust, but he is just not sure, give him that reassurance. He gets along with other small dogs. As Samson settles into his foster home, think about adopting him and giving him your love. We will update his bio as we learn more about him. In the meantime, our must haves are: A fenced in yard Another small, adult, well socialized dog for him to learn from Someone that can be home more than not or a newly retired person that has breeder dog experience No apartment, high rises, condos or town-houses If you are wanting to adopt him then go to our website .allamericandachshundrescue and fill out our online adoption application. ============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ============== AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten. If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal. There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures. To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3. Click this link to apply: .allamericandachshundrescue/apply, it will take you to the application form. Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. Overview:

The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
