Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. Meet Cassidy – A Brave Little Survivor Cassidyi (SC) s a 2monthold female Shepherd mix with a spirit as strong as her will to live. This tiny fighter was rescued from a shelter after enduring a terrifying fall from three stories high. She was found on the pavement with a spinal fracture, and though she currently cannot use her back legs, Cassidy is safe in our care and receiving all the medical attention she needs. She is awaiting a neurology consult to determine the best path forward, and we are committed to giving her every chance at recovery. Despite her ordeal, Cassidy’s sweetness shines through. She is super affectionate and loves people, melting hearts instantly. She is also dogfriendly, gentle, and social with other pups. Most of all, Cassidy is resilient—her courage inspires everyone who meets her. Cassidy deserves a loving home where she can continue her journey surrounded by compassion and care. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
