Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Introducing Toots! Toots is still settling into her foster home, and her foster family is enjoying getting to know her more each day. What we already know is that she is a very sweet, well-mannered girl who is house broken and crate trained—a wonderful start for her next chapter. She walks confidently on leash and is a strong, fast walker, currently working on improving her leash manners. Toots enjoys her outings and would do well with someone who can continue to guide her with consistency and patience. She is good with most dogs, but not cats, and requires a cat-free home. Toots has a soft spot for treats and food, and she loves spending time watching wildlife—clearly a curious observer of the world around her. She came to us from Waukegan Animal Control, where she was lovingly known as Roxie, and is now ready for a fresh start under her new name. As her foster family continues to learn more about her personality, one thing is already clear: Toots has a lot of love to give and will make a wonderful companion for the right home. Stop by our weekly adoption events on Saturdays from 12-4 pm at 372 Townline Road in Mundelein, IL 60060 to meet our adoptable animals in person. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
