Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). OJ came to the shelter with his dog pals Elsa and Otto. While we're not sure why they came to us, it's clear they were all very well cared for and loved in their previous home. OJ is out of the puppy phase, but still has plenty of energy. He loves to play fetch, be with people, run around in the yard, and go on walks. OJ deserves a home where he can be appreciated for the beautiful boy he is and be given lots of exercise and leadership to help him thrive. ______________________ Report on OJ's day out: I had another wonderful day out with OJ! He does so well in the car and is definitely NOT a morning dog, because he tried going back to sleep. We went on an easy walk and saw plenty of small critters and other dogs. A large dog lunged at him and he was completely non-reactive. We also ran into another volunteer, and OJ sat patiently while we chatted. He is such an easy house guest, too. My other dog wasn't happy to be excluded from the party, and OJ didn't mind the meowing behind the door. He is such a chiller and the perfect dog for an outdoorsy family. Whoever ends up with him will be hitting the jackpot. Love this guy so much!! _____________ Report on OJ's Spa day: I took OJ to Pet Supply for a midday bath and blow dry. At first he was unsure, but I hopped in the tub first and he followed me right in. Once he was in the bath, he just sat there patiently while I got to work. He ignored all the noise and was just happy to be there. He let me scrub him all over, towel dry, and blow dry him. OJ is a VERY close second to my greatest shelter love... ____________ To make an appointment to meet a very clean OJ, please go to yoloshelter/adopt. Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
