Description

Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). ***currently in a foster to adopt. . An application for his adoption can be submitted at socorescue (no need to register or login). Questions about Cheech and/or our adoption process should be sent to socorescue8gmail; please do not call the rescue's number.*** Cheech and his buddy, Chong-a young Shepherd mix, were found as strays at a hunting club. After no one claimed ownership and unable to find another immediately solution for the two dogs, SoCo Rescue was contacted and asked to help. With assistance from the Dublin-Laurens Co. Humane Society, Cheech and Chong were kept safe and secure until we could get them in. To say that Cheech is a very mellow fellow would be an understatement. In fact, he's a little shy ant first, but that doesn't deter him from making new friends very quickly. He plays well with other dogs and was unresponsive when cat tested. He will require additional house and leash training, but seems to be an eager learner. Cheech has been neutered, heartworm tested (neg.), received an update on all of his annual vaccinations and de-wormings as well as started and kept on his monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives.

Overview:

The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
