Birkin is a seizure dog. Please do not apply if this is a dealbreaker. His seizures are well managed with daily medication, and he has not experienced any breakthrough seizures since being on his medication. Birkin was surrendered by his family when changes at work meant they could no longer give him the time and companionship he deserves. Because Birkin thrives on being close to his person, his ideal forever home would have someone who is home most of the time. Birkin can be *selective about his canine friends* . He can get along with other dogs, but if you ask him, he’d much rather be your one-and-only baby and soak up all the attention himself. He loves his toys, enjoys a good game of fetch, and is always happy to join you for a short walk. At the end of the day, though, Birkin’s favorite place is right beside his person—and yes, *he fully expects a spot in the bed!* More than anything, Birkin is looking for what every rescue dog deserves: *a true forever home* . A family who will love him, make him a priority, and never again make him wonder whether he belongs. Birkin is ready for his person. Could that be you?

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
