Found as a stray, this precious senior is now safe and surrounded by care while she waits for a soft place to land. About Whisper Abby: Female Terrier Approx. 12 years old 11 lbs Heartworm negative Good with dogs Good with kids Good with men and women Medical Update: Whisper Abby recently had a recheck vet appointment on 1/5. Her bloodwork shows anemia (possibly from parasites or fleas) and elevated liver values, which may be related to past steroid use, arthritis, or possible Cushing’s disease. The good news? Her vet is hopeful that with TLC, improved nutrition, and time, her values may improve. She has started liver support medication and Liqui-Tinic, with another recheck planned in a couple of weeks. Despite everything she’s been through, Whisper Abby remains calm, loving, and incredibly grateful for kindness. She would thrive in a quiet, loving home where she can enjoy her golden years feeling safe and cherished. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
