Description
Dog Breed: Redbone Coonhound (medium coat). Kiwi came to us with her friend Canela (A051884) after their owner sadly passed away, and sheâs been quietly winning hearts ever since. She's known as a very calm, gentle, and low maintenance soul. She walks beautifully on a leash without pulling and has a lower energy level. She's also done well with other dogs in shelter playgroups. Loose in the play yard, Kiwi can make her own fun by doing her own thing. She can be independent, and enjoys strolling around and taking in all the smells. She isnât very interested in toys or treats - it doesn't take much to make her happy! Though she doesn't require constant attention she does love affection. She enjoys being pet and will happily reward you with sweet little kisses. If youâre looking for quiet companionship and finding joy in simple pleasures, Kiwi's the girl for you!

Overview:
The Redbone Coonhound is a striking American breed, instantly recognizable by its beautiful, glossy red coat. Originating in the Southeastern United States in the late 18th century, they were developed for their exceptional scenting abilities and distinctive "bawling" bark, ideal for trailing and treeing raccoons and other small game. Physically, they are medium-sized, muscular hounds with long, pendulous ears and soulful brown eyes, exuding an air of quiet determination. Temperamentally, Redbones are known for being amiable, outgoing, and eager to please, making them wonderful companions. They are generally good with children and other dogs when properly socialized, though their strong prey drive means careful introductions to smaller pets are necessary. Due to their high energy levels and vocal nature, they are not typically suited for apartment living and thrive in homes with spacious yards and active families who can provide plenty of exercise and mental stimulation. While generally healthy, potential owners should be aware of common hound ailments such as hip and elbow dysplasia, and bloat. Overall, the Redbone Coonhound is a loyal, affectionate, and spirited breed, perfect for active families seeking a devoted canine companion.
