Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Sam is on the lookout for his forever family, and we just know the right one is out there. He’s from our partner rescue in Louisiana and has arrived to a NJ foster home on 1/10. When Sam was first rescued, he was found all alone in someone’s yard — just 2 pounds, hairless, and with a long road of healing ahead of him. But through it all, Sam never lost his gentle, loving spirit. Fast forward to today, and this once-fragile pup is now healthy, happy, and thriving. Despite being a puppy, Sam has a surprisingly calm side. He adores attention and has settled in easily to a busy home. He’s grown up around other dogs and does great with canine companions — though he plays hard and is still learning when to hit the brakes. Because of this, he may do best with a younger, playful dog sibling who can keep up with his puppy energy and help show him the ropes. Sam is: · Crate-trained and sleeps through the night · Making great progress with housebreaking and leash walking · Food motivated and eager to learn · Curious, inquisitive, and full of personality · A little confident (okay, slightly bossy ), but endlessly lovable Sam has already overcome so much in his short life. Now all he needs is a family to love him forever and complete his incredible journey. Could that be you? Sam is fixed, microchipped and up to date on vaccines. His adoption fee is $550. Adopting a dog is a commitment that will require annual veterinary care at a minimum, training, exercise, enrichment, etc. Pet care is not cheap or easy and adopters should consider the costs, time and training prior to adoption. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
