Description
Dog Breed: Corgi / Mixed (short coat). Nina came in with a batch of stray puppies, she is a Corgi mix. We estimate she is under 1 year old. She is currently staying with a foster family, so please call the office to make arrangements to meet her. Here is what her foster family says about her: ******** Nina is one of the puppies that was dumped on El Paso back in Nov. She is doing great in our home and will be the perfect companion for any family!! She is so gentle when taking treats and loves to snuggle up and get pets. After almost 2 weeks with us she has blossomed so much. Also, Nina is completely house trained!! She is still a little cautious getting a leashed up but once it's on, she is the perfect girl during her walks. She also does really well with dogs of similar size and we can tell she will do well with bigger dogs once she gets some time to get to know them. She doesn't mind cats and has been around chickens and cows. Nina is a little shy at first meeting, but she will be an amazing addition for any family once she's had a little time to adjust. ******** All dogs are vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered (if they are old enough) before they leave the shelter. Please fill out an application if you are interested in this dog or call us today for more information Because we are an all-volunteer organization, please call ahead to schedule a time for a Meet & Greet so we can ensure a dog handler is available to show you the dog or dogs you are interested in. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
