Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 400. River is a beautiful sparkling Shepherd that is only 8 months old and ever changing. He is playful and loves all other dogs but then is easy going and slow and wants to cuddle with his people. He's a puppy that due to his beginning is just learning about life, love and safety and is developing into a wonderful companion for any family! River was a stray and was held in a dog pound where he grew up with his sibling, Briggs. Both boys had finally maxed out in time and to be euthanized for space when we pulled them. They were lucky in that they were cared for and socialized more than many other in that situation but it wasn't a home. So now safe in rescue he's excelling in everything from potty training to learning how to play with toys...yep like most puppies he destroys them with glee. He's still a bit timid but quickly warms up and is ready to be your shadow. This handsome 50 pound baby is crate trained and is a bit timid with strangers but is looking to bond with someone who has the time, patience and love to give him! He definitely gains confidence following other dogs, so we are requiring another dog to be in the adopter's home. A fence would be ideal as well. If you would like to experience the joy of this amazing pup and help him continue his life's journey you will reap the immeasurable rewards of his gratitude and love . Please apply a .HavenAnimalRescueNebraska to learn more. ADOPTION DONATION: $400 *ALL DOGS MUST BE INSIDE COMPANION ANIMALS! Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
