Description
Dog Breed: American Pit Bull Terrier / American Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Meet Ollie, an adorable pitbull mix who loves people other large dogs. He can be a little shy at first, but once he trusts you, he turns into a huge cuddle bug. He loves to cuddle up on the couch to watch TV with his people, but can also be active and fun. He's obsessed with toys--balls, stuffies, chew bones, tug toys, every kind! He especially loves anything that squeeks and loves to destroy stuffed toys. He is very athletic and would excel at agility or flyball or would be great for an active person or family. He would love to run and hike with his new family and loves water too! He would love a puppy pool in the summer and would love to go to the lake or river with you too! He loves to play fetch and would love a large fenced yard to play in. He loves playing with other large dogs and would especially love a pretty female companion. He does need a home with no small animals or livestock. He's learning commands, but still gets very excited around his favorite people and is still learning not to jump up to give kisses, so he would be best in a family with older kids. He has so much love to give, is your home the right fit for him? Some pets are in foster homes or may already have an appointment scheduled, so the appointment is important to make sure I will be available to meet you when you come. Polk County Humane Society is located in Bolivar, Missouri, but also makes transports to the Denver, CO, Des Moines, IA and St. Louis areas twice monthly. For potential adopters in those areas, we can do a virtual visit using FaceTime or another app. Just request an appointment using the same link, but note that you want the visit to be virtual. We will call you at the time of the visit once it is confirmed. For long distance transports to Colorado and Iowa, there is an additional $100 fee to cover the cost of the transport ($65) and a health certificate from a veterinarian ($35). For transports to St. Louis, the additional fee is $50 to help cover gas. Going that last mile home for our sweet pets! All of our pets are neutered or spayed, have vaccinations appropriate for their age, treated with flea/tick/heartworm prevention, dewormed and dogs are also microchipped. #adoptdontshop

Physically, they are medium-sized, known for their muscular build, broad heads, and powerful jaws, typically weighing between 30-60 pounds. Their coats are short and come in a wide array of colors. Temperamentally, a well-socialized APBT is often described as loyal, affectionate, and people-oriented, displaying a playful and sometimes clownish demeanor. They can be excellent family companions, provided they receive consistent training and early socialization, though their high energy levels mean they thrive with active owners. While they can adapt to apartment living with sufficient exercise, a house with a secure yard is often preferred. Notable health considerations include a predisposition to hip and elbow dysplasia, allergies, and certain heart conditions.
