Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). This young fella loves to play- fetch is his top game. He loves it so much that the wise move is to have 2 toys so you can keep him going without having to take breaks to achieve `drop it`. He's super friendly but a little anxious about new things -so play also helps him adapt. After we played for a bit he was open to getting scratches and taking a break with me-but playing with him was a way for me to earn some trust. He's absolutely beautiful so he is pretty photogenic and was totally good to hang out while I took pictures as long as the reward was more play. Marty is a very sweet boy who just needs time to adjust to new things, a toy to hold to help him feel safe, and some patience as he does his process to understand and accept uncertain moments. His new humans should have some GSD/bigger dog experience, a good amount of patience, a desire to provide stable structure, and enough available storage space on their phone to take a bajillion pictures of this supermodel pup. Do you fit the bill?

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
