Description
Dog Breed: Corgi / Mixed (medium coat). Please contact Diane Pedulla (dianepluckydoganimalrescue) for more information about this pet. is sweet puppers! is not one North Pole worker! ELF NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Elf Best Guess for Breed: Corgi mix Best Guess for Age: 4 years as of December 2025 SEX: Male Approximate Weight: 15 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven't seen him with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter- needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here! Special adoption considerations: Elf is a truly Lucky Dog. He tested positive for heartworms, but has been treated. Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to discuss where in the treatment process this Lucky Dog is in right now! Just email the adoption coordinator - the address is at lower left! Elf is Looking For: This tremendously cute boy with the even cuter name landed in the shelter through no fault of his own. He's eager to once again have his own humans for sniffy walks and all the adventures they can dream up! Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed are on his wish list too, but you know what? He's out of the puppy yips and as a wise, experienced dog, he knows what's most important in life: Being safe and loved, in a home where he belongs. In exchange he promises to make you go a every time you look at that face, and love and loyal companionship for all his days. What do you say? Can you see Elf down there by your side? What My Foster Says About Me: We will update this once he has spent time in foster care. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training. TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
