Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier. Justin is a very vocal pup, especially in group settings, where he loves to make his presence known. He is friendly and welcoming, even with new faces. Despite his chatty nature, Justin has a calm side and settles nicely, making him a fun and well balance companion. He needs to be the only dog in his forever home. 5-year-old neutered male Boxer/Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix, arrived at the shelter on 11/29/25 as an owner surrender. Medium size Medium energy Consistent evidence of housetraining Justin is a confident, gentle, well-mannered and affectionate dog. He takes to people immediately, responds to commands, and is calm right out of the kennel despite the confinement. He does well in casual outside meetings with other dogs, but this did not translate to peaceful coexistence in a previous home so ideally he would be the only dog in the home. The Henrico Police Animal Shelter is accessible by appointment only. Animals available for adoption can be viewed online at petfinder or adoptapet. Please contact the Animal Shelter at (804) 727-8807, Monday-Saturday, 10:00 am - 4:30 pm to schedule an appointment for adoption. Thank you.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
