Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 550. Meet Champ — Your Future Snuggle Buddy Champ is exactly what his name promises: a total little champion. He’s cuddly, bright, and eager to learn. He weighs around 4 lbs and was born around November 3. He already knows how to sit and is working on stay, and because he’s super food‑motivated, training feels like a fun game to him. Potty training is coming along really well, and he’s getting better every day. He handles baths like a pro (or at least a very good sport), and afterward he loves curling up in his cozy bed. His absolute favorite thing, though, is taking naps with his humans — he’s a soft, warm little shadow who wants to be close to his people. If you’re looking for a sweet, snuggly, smart pup who’s ready to grow with you, Champ might be the perfect match. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
