Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 600. Blitzen is from Texas. He was found roaming the streets there along with the rest of his brothers and sisters, born to two strays living on the streets. He was picked up by SPOT and then transferred to Rescue. Blitzen is a young Aussie/Dachshund mix pup, which means he's got a little herding brain, a little long-dog swagger, and a whole lot of personality packed into one adorable package. He's friendly with humans of all ages and dogs of all sizes—big friends, small friends, I like them all! He's untested with Kitties as of now, so we'd say no kitty friends for now. However, he'd absolutely love a friendly resident pup to show him the ropes and help burn off the nonstop puppy zoomies. He's still learning how this whole “good boy” thing works. He's mostly potty trained, and working on it every day! He is leash trained, loves to take walks and just smell everything. (and we mean EVERYTHING) He's very smart and eager to please! He's been very open to training (especially if treats are involved… just saying). He loves playing fetch, just as much as cuddling in your lap. He has this adorable habit of hopping around when he gets excited—his little feet just kind of bounce on their own! At first, he can be a little timid and shy, and he does have an independent, slightly aloof side—but give him a few minutes of cuddles and he'll totally melt. In fact, I might just fall asleep right on your chest if you let him.. Full disclosure: he definitely has opinions about the crate. He might voice them briefly (gotta keep things honest), but settles down pretty quickly once he realizes it’s not the end of the world. He's working on his manners and would really appreciate a family who can give him safe things to chew, gentle guidance, and lots of patience—because, well… I’m a typical puppy. If you’re looking for a lovable, playful, slightly quirky pup who’s equal parts spunky explorer and cozy cuddle bug, I might just be your guy. Don't hesitate to fill out an adoption application today! He can't wait to meet you! Blitzen is from Texas. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
