Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. Adoption Fee: 600. My name is Blitzen! I may have started my journey in Texas, but I’ve been living the Minnesota life for about a month now—and I have to say, snow is pretty awesome. Those big piles in the yard? Love them. I’m fitting in great with the dog and cat in my foster home. The other dog and I are total buds—we love to run and play together—and I find the cat very interesting too. My foster mom says I have a medium energy level because I enjoy playtime just as much as I enjoy a good nap. I absolutely adore the kids here, especially waking them up with kisses (best part of the day!). I sleep quietly all night in my crate and don’t make a peep until my people are up in the morning. I also hang out in my crate during the day when my foster mom is at work, and I’ve never had an accident—I actually enjoy the downtime, especially if there’s a peanut butter Kong involved. I’m learning all about potty training and have even figured out how to ring a bell by the door when I need to go outside. I love dog toys, though I’ll admit I sometimes test my luck with a sock or glove—but I’m learning that “no” means it’s time to put it down. When playtime is over, my favorite thing to do is cuddle up on the couch with a blanket and anyone who’s ready to relax. I started life outdoors, but I’m quickly mastering the art of being a good boy in a home. I’m a super friendly, happy puppy who’s ready to bring lots of love, snuggles, and smiles to my forever family. Blitzen is from Texas. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
