Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 400. Max is a young male Lab/Hound mix, born around August 2025, and he has truly grown into a wonderful all-around pup. He’s the perfect balance of playful and chill — happy to romp around with other dogs and just as content to curl up afterward for some quality snuggle time. When Max first came to his foster home, he was a bit unsure around people and preferred the company of other dogs. With patience and love, he’s really blossomed! Now he greets his people with full-body wiggles and a wagging tail, and he happily seeks out affection and cuddles. Watching his confidence grow has been such a joy. Max is doing fantastic with his manners and is considered house trained — no accidents in the house for over three weeks! He sleeps peacefully in his crate at night and when his humans are away, making him an easy fit for a variety of households. He’s a smart, eager-to-learn pup who has already made great progress with training and will continue to thrive with consistency and positive reinforcement. Max will thrive in a home with another social dog. If you’re looking for a loving, well-behaved puppy with a gentle heart and a playful spirit, Max might just be your perfect match. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
