Description

Dog Breed: Bullmastiff (short coat). Don't forget!! We are currently open by appointment only. This is to control the traffic in the building at one time. If you would like to look at the cats/dogs for adoption, or if you need to relinquish or to do any other business, please message our FB page or call us at 304-267-8389 to schedule an appointment. If you see a specific pet for adoption on our FB page we can always set up a specific meet and greet for that as well. Looking for a senior companion? Well, Lady is the girl for you! Lady is a Bullmastiff. She is good with other dogs, cats, kids, and cars. She is also leash trained! Come in and meet this beautiful girl!! Adoption fee... $175, cash or credit card, includes spay/neuter, first shots and microchip.. If you already have a dog, bring them in with you for a 'meet and greet'. Mon.-Sat. 10-4Following is a comment from someone who lived next door to Lady in the past....."Hi! So this dog actually lived next door to me for a long time!! She’s old, but she’s so sweet! She loves butt scratches! I’d always give her some love when I would go outside. I’m so sad that she had to be given up. I wish I could take her but, sadly, I cannot. I hope someone gives this girl the best home and love that she deserves." We understand not everyone can adopt a pet. Some homes are full, some homes do not allow certain pets and some have lifestyles that can't handle a pet right now. You can still help. Sharing pictures on FB, volunteering, or just coming in and sponsoring part of the adoption fee for when the pet is adopted. This helps a lot. No amount is too small to donate towards the adoption fee. If you would like to help sponsor, speak to one of the staff. Especially the cats and kittens need help (since we usually have so many!) Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank You!

Bullmastiff

A.K.A.: Watchdog of England, Gamekeeper's Night-Dog, Bullie
Overview:

The Bullmastiff is a dignified and powerful breed, originating in 19th-century England as a gamekeeper's dog, specifically bred to deter poachers without causing serious harm. This large and muscular dog boasts a short, dense coat typically in fawn, red, or brindle, often with a striking black mask. Despite their imposing appearance, Bullmastiffs are known for their gentle, loyal, and affectionate temperament with their families, often referred to as a "gentle giant." They are generally good with children when properly socialized, making them suitable for active families. While their size might suggest otherwise, they can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise and mental stimulation, as they are not overly high-energy dogs. However, their ideal environment includes a securely fenced yard. Potential owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, bloat, and certain cancers. With proper care and training, a Bullmastiff makes a devoted and protective companion.
