Description
Dog Breed: Rat Terrier. Orville is a pocket-sized lovebug with big terrier energy and an even bigger heart. Social, affectionate, and endlessly happy, he’s the kind of puppy who wants to be wherever you are and will happily make himself your shadow. He’s nearly fully potty trained and does a great job letting you know when he needs to go out. Orville has settled nicely into foster life and does well being home with another dog. He hasn’t shown any destructive behavior and really just wants companionship and connection. Orville is wonderful with other dogs, cats, and kids. He’s lived with dogs of different ages and sizes, respects boundaries when corrected, and even has a feline friend he enjoys playing with. He’s done great with children and is all about belly rubs, cuddles, and kisses. He’s a typical high-energy terrier in the best way. Curious, adventurous, and always ready to go, Orville loves exploring the yard, going on walks, and being part of whatever the day brings. Quieter streets and trails are his favorite while he continues getting used to busier areas. Orville thrives on human interaction and would be happiest in a home where he isn’t alone all day. Whether as an only dog with plenty of attention or with another dog for company, he’s adaptable, social, and eager to please. This dog is up to date on vaccinations and is spayed or neutered. (Please note: Puppies under 3 months old may not be sterilized prior to adoption. If this is the case, your adoption coordinator will provide guidance on the process.) To adopt or learn more about this dog, you must complete an adoption application, which can be found on our website: .sandypawsrescue. PLEASE READ: • If a dog or puppy is listed, they are currently available for adoption. However, they may already be pending an adoption, and their profile may not yet reflect this. • All information is accurate to the best of our knowledge as of the posting date. • Unless explicitly stated, Sandy Paws Rescue does not guarantee the breed of any dog. Breeds listed are educated guesses made by shelter staff, volunteers, or veterinarians. Many of our dogs are mixed breeds, often with pit bull-type genetics, resulting in a wide variety of physical traits and temperaments. Our dogs come from various situations, such as kill shelters, owner surrenders, or as strays. It is likely both parents were mixed breeds as well. Sandy Paws Rescue does not have a public shelter in Massachusetts. Our dogs reside in private foster homes or boarding kennels in the South until adopted. Many dogs are spoken for prior to transport or release from state-mandated isolation. For information on adoption fees, procedures, or FAQs, visit our website: .sandypawsrescue. The FIRST step in adopting from Sandy Paws Rescue is to submit a completed adoption application.

Breed overview
Rat Terrier
A.K.A.: American Rat Terrier, Rattie, Feist, Ratting Terrier, Ratting Feist, Decker Terrier
Overview:
The Rat Terrier is a lively and intelligent American breed, originally developed in the early 20th century from a mix of Fox Terriers, Old English White Terriers, and other small terriers, primarily for farm work and pest control. These compact yet sturdy dogs typically weigh between 10-25 pounds and stand 10-18 inches tall, boasting a short, smooth coat that comes in a variety of patterns, often with large patches of color over white. Known for their energetic and inquisitive nature, Rat Terriers are remarkably adaptable and affectionate, making them excellent companions for active individuals or families. While their boundless energy necessitates regular exercise and mental stimulation, they can thrive in apartments provided their needs are met. Generally a healthy breed, they have a lifespan of 12-18 years, though some may be prone to patellar luxation or Legg-Calve-Perthes disease. Their friendly disposition and eagerness to please make them highly trainable and a joy to live with.
