Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (short coat). My name is Sheba! Are you on the hunt for a petite Shepherd who is energetic, fun-loving and loyal? Well, then I might be your girl. I love other dogs and I am a champ in playgroups. I enjoy walks, love a good game of fetch, enjoy going places in the car and travel beautifully in a travel kennel. As with all Shepherds, I am highly intelligent, love to learn and am eager to please. I have loads of Shepherd energy and need regular physical exercise, mental stimulation and structure/predictability in my home life to thrive. I am more comfortable with women but do well with men who have a calm/confident energy. I will do best with a guardian who knows Shepherds well, and I will be an amazing, loyal, loving companion for life! Would you like to meet me? [Sheba is 3 years old and weighs 52 lbs.] If you'd like to meet Sheba, please contact Diane: (310) 507-3341 or dk1enzo cox Note: This is a courtesy posting for our fellow rescuer, which means that even though this animal does not belong to our group, we are here to help those who need to find a home for their animals. German Shepherd Dog

A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
