Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler (short coat). Location: Berryville VA We all know cattle dogs come in all shapes, sizes, and most importantly, personalities! Make no mistake, Buddy is the real deal in a 35lbpackage! If you are looking for a pup who is always on the go, with intensity and drive (and a strong herding instinct) Then Buddy might be the dog for you! Buddy is not a quiet, couch potato day. Buddy runs. Buddy herds. Buddy will circle you with the long lead until he has you all tied up. Buddy chases. Buddy wants to be by your side all the time. Buddy is friendly and playful with dog friends ... once he's gotten to know them. Buddy has been working really hard on realizing he doesn’t have to go nuts when we see other dog shaped friends. After a slow and patient introduction, Buddy integrated well with his three foster siblings, who he is enjoying playing with! However, like any proper cattle dog, Buddy’s version of play is intense! Running, chasing, herding, and nipping. He promises he will never run out of energy. If you're looking for a playmate for a current dog, they'll need to want full-contact, high-intensity fun. At night though? That’s a different story. With all of his get-up-and-go, he was also blessed with an “off” switch. Buddy is the BEST snuggler, and is totally content being your weighed, heated blanket. Buddy is currently being fostered in a rural farm setting, and is settling in well to a quieter, more open environment. While Buddy may be able to thrive in a more suburban home, he will need to go to a home that is committed to working on his leash reactivity, encouraging positive experiences and calm behavior. Buddy has also shown some strong herding instinct toward the resident goats andchickens. He loves to herd the cats but hasn't shown aggression toward them. He could live with dog-savvy, confident cats. Make sure they like being charged at and nose-bopped! Buddy in a nutshell: * 2 years old, neutered male * Up to date on appropriate vaccinations, microchipped and on monthly flea/tick/heartworm prevention * Crate trained, house trained, knows some basic cues (sit, stay, leave it, working on fetch) * Buddy has been reactive to other dogs. He gets excited and frustrated, but is learning to be calm when he spots potential friends * A suburban or rural setting would be ideal or a home with a yard for Buddy to stretch his legs. His recall needs work before he should be trusted off-leash. * Loves morning runs, late morning runs, afternoon runs, and evening runs! * Could be trained in a variety of dog sports, like canicross, agility, nosework, and more Do you have questions about Buddy? Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
