Description
Dog Breed: Cane Corso Mastiff (short coat). Freda (A565936) is a girl who clearly hasnât had life be very kind to her, and it shows in the quiet way she carries herself. She appears to have had multiple litters, and after giving so much of herself, sheâs now left with signs of wear on her body, including callused elbows and a mass on her head that will need veterinary attention. During her time out, Freda was very shut down and not interested in going for a walk or engaging much with her surroundings. Itâs hard to tell whether this is due to discomfort or simply the stress of the shelter environment, but she comes across as more sad than stubborn. She could benefit from some gentle weight management once settled, but more than anything, Freda seems to need a calm, patient home where she can finally rest and feel safe. With time, compassion, and appropriate medical care, Freda may begin to show who she really is beyond the shutdown exteriorâa dog who has given everything and deserves a soft place to land.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
