ELMO - LABRADOR RETRIEVER / MIXED (MEDIUM COAT) DOG FOR ADOPTION

Description

Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Elmo, the mixed breed. We suspect Elmo is sort of lab or shepherd mix but are not entirely sure. Elmo arrived at the Shelter by no fault of his own – his previous guardian was undergoing some medical conditions that prevented them from continuing to care for Elmo. Elmo is reported to be friendly with strangers and interacted with children. He lived with cats in his previous home and was fairly cat-savvy. A dog-savvy cat in the next home may be a fit after a slow, thoughtful introduction. Staff have observed that Elmo has been quiet, polite and curious. She walks by other dogs in their kennels easily and has what is described as a calm but playful energy. Elmo has met other playful dogs at the Shelter and enjoys joining in on on some play – chasing and some light wrestling. A resident dog who will join in on the play fun may be a fit in the next home. Elmo’s previous guardians did report he was house trained but adopters should be patient in the transition while they are still learning to communicate and get to know Elmo! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
