Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed. Meet Merlin! Merlin is an approximately 1-year-old male Blue Heeler mix who was found running loose near 548 and Howell Road. Sadly, no owner came forward to reclaim him, so Merlin is now available for adoption and hoping to find a committed forever home. Merlin is a young, energetic boy with all the intelligence and drive typical of a Heeler mix. He's at a great age for continued training and would do best in a home that understands the needs of an active, working-breed type dog and can provide structure, enrichment, and regular exercise. Medical Note: Merlin does have an injury to his back leg. He is scheduled to be seen by our veterinarian on Wednesday, 12/31/25, and he also has an appointment for X-rays at an outside veterinary clinic on Tuesday, 12/30/25. RAC staff will be happy to discuss his medical plan and answer any questions with approved applicants. Adoption Fee: $125 The adoption fee includes his neuter, microchip, rabies vaccination, heartworm test, and age-appropriate core vaccinations. Important: Merlin is scheduled for his neuter appointment on Wednesday, 12/31/25. This appointment date is non-negotiable, and adopters must be able to comply. If you are interested in meeting or adopting Merlin, please submit an adoption application online at: rockwalladoptions/adoptfoster/adoption-application/ Once your application is received and approved, RAC staff will reach out to schedule next steps. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
