Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua / Dachshund / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 550. Hi, my name is Kent, but my foster parents call me Kenny. I have only been with my new foster parents in Minnesota for a week since arriving from Texas, and I am blossoming more every day as I get comfortable in my new home. I may be a little timid, but I am a sweet and gentle boy. I am seeking out cuddles on the couch, I like to follow my foster dad around the house, and I am making progress with my potty training. I am food-motivated, and treats are a great way to build my trust. In no time, if you take things slow with me, I will figure out that you can be my new best friend. Once I decide that cuddling with you feels good, I will nudge your hand for more rubs if you stop petting me (see video )! I enjoy a good bone to chew on and playing with toys (see video ). My foster home has a fenced yard, which isn’t a requirement in my forever home for me to go potty. My Texas foster says I like to walk on a leash, but here in Minnesota, while I don’t have a problem with the leash itself, all the new sounds outside are a little scary for me. It’s just going to take me time to learn my new surroundings and feel comfortable. I was surprised by the cold weather here in Minnesota, but I am getting used to it—my warm fleece jacket helps! I do enjoy sniffing around the grass and spending some time outside if the weather cooperates. Frequent potty breaks during the day will set me up for success with potty training. I sleep quietly in my crate all night and have no accidents! As I mentioned above, I am a bit timid. I find comfort in my crate—it is my safe space. I may pancake to the floor when you approach me to clip on my leash or put on my jacket, but I am braver now. I will jump up on the couch when my foster parents call me, and I let them leash me. I am living peacefully with four resident small dogs and have shown a little interest in initiating play with them. I would also be fine as the only dog in the house because I will have you as my buddy! I would do best in a home with someone who is home most of the time. At this time, small kids may be a little scary for me because they move fast and can be noisy. Older, respectful kids should be fine. If you are looking for a happy, sweet boy, then I am your man! I am learning that people are great, and I will show you my trust with tail wags and cuddles. Fill out an application—my foster mom would love to tell you all about me and answer any questions you may have. Love, Kenny Kent is from Texas. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. Breed overview
Overview:
The Chiweenie, an adorable and increasingly popular designer breed, is a delightful cross between the spirited Chihuahua and the charming Dachshund. Originating in the United States, these small companions inherited a unique blend of traits from their parent breeds. Physically, they typically possess a long, low body reminiscent of the Dachshund, combined with the often-large ears and expressive eyes of the Chihuahua. Their coats can vary widely in color and texture, from short and smooth to long and wiry. Temperamentally, Chiweenies are known for being loyal, affectionate, and surprisingly energetic. They often exhibit a playful and sometimes stubborn streak, making early socialization and training beneficial. Their small size makes them well-suited for apartment living and families with older children or individuals seeking a devoted lapdog. While generally robust, potential health considerations include issues common to their parent breeds, such as patellar luxation and intervertebral disc disease, making regular veterinary check-ups important for their long-term well-being.
