Description
Dog Breed: Siberian Husky (medium coat). Meet Anchorage, a thoughtful, aloof explorer who prefers to take the world in at his own pace. This handsome boy is happiest when his nose is leading the way — sniffing, investigating, and quietly discovering everything around him. He’s not one to rush into affection, but there’s something endearing about his independent spirit and calm presence. Anchorage is great on leash and makes a wonderful walking companion, especially if you enjoy peaceful strolls with lots of sniff stops along the way. He would thrive with someone who appreciates a dog that doesn’t demand attention, but instead offers steady companionship and quiet loyalty. If you’re looking for a gentle adventurer with a thoughtful soul, Anchorage might just be your perfect match. Anchorage has participated in shelter playgroups and may enjoy a compatible canine friend in her new home. In playgroups she's a helper dog, which means she helps new dogs been safe and welcome. She's also sharing her shelter suite with a friend she met at the shelter. Looking for a buddy for your dog? Bring him/her to the shelter for a meet and greet and see if we're a match! Check out her playgroup video here: To meet me, visit the Bradshaw Animal Shelter Tuesday-Sunday, Noon - 5:00 pm, Wednesdays, Noon - 6:00 pm. All adoptions are on a first-come, first-served basis. To help expedite the meet & greet process, please make note of my Animal ID number, and those of other dogs you might be interested in meeting. Be sure to bring your ID with you, too. We’re located at 3839 Bradshaw Road, Sacramento. I look forward to getting to know you!

Overview:
The Siberian Husky is a striking and beloved breed, originating from Northeast Asia where they were bred by the Chukchi people for pulling sleds over long distances in harsh conditions. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their medium size, thick double coat (available in various colors and markings), and often captivating blue or bi-colored eyes. Their temperament is typically friendly, outgoing, and playful, making them generally good with children and other dogs. However, their independent and sometimes stubborn nature, coupled with a strong prey drive, means consistent training and secure containment are essential. While affectionate, their high energy levels and need for significant exercise make them less suitable for sedentary lifestyles or tiny apartments; a house with a securely fenced yard is often preferred. Health-wise, they are generally robust but can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia and eye problems such as cataracts and progressive retinal atrophy. Overall, a Siberian Husky thrives with active families committed to meeting their exercise and mental stimulation needs.
