Description
Dog Breed: Terrier (medium coat). Meet Willibelle, the little terrier mix! This little sweetie came to the Shelter as a stray so we do not know much about her life before the Shelter. She took some time to warm up. After relaxing, we have observed aht she gives kisses and tail wags. She has met multiple small and large breed dogs and has coexisted nicely. Willibelle is missing some hair on her back which may be due to some flea exposure. Our staff members have observed that she may also be hearing impaired. Willebelle does seem to navigate her environment well. If you are looking for a gentle soul and have a quiet home to compliment her mellow nature, come meet Williebelle today! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
