Description
Dog Breed: Collie (medium coat). A COMPLETED APPLICATION IS REQUIRED BEFORE ANY CONVERSATION ABOUT ADOPTING FROM OUR ORGANIZATION. PLEASE GO TO OUR WEBSITE AT .colliesheltierescue AND READ ABOUT THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS (GOOD PHONE INTERVIEW, SECURELY FENCED YARD, FABULOUS REFERENCE FROM YOUR VETERINARIAN AND A HOME VISIT.) I KNOW THAT IS A LOT BUT WE SCREEN CAREFULLY FOR THE SAKE OF THE DOGS. THEY DESERVE IT! Archer is a big beautiful blue merle rough-coated Collie, a neutered male of course. He is calm and friendly, a little reserved initially but warms up quickly. His foster mom also refers to him as Bigfoot especially when he pounces on something with those big paws and then asks for his human to pay the "belly rub tax." His mannerisms are typical Collie ones. When you ask him a question, he tips his head from side to side as if to figure out the meaning. This is known as the Collie head tilt, coming directly down the Collie lines from the original Lassie. Archer will also lean up against you if he really likes you, so we need to be careful of very young children so that they are not flattened to the ground. Archer is good with all dogs, large or small. He is not fond of cats. He will love everyone in his forever human family and will choose his very own primary person, almost immediately. Dogs are kind of persnickety when it comes to choosing their "very own human." They will look over the field and sniff and rub against everyone's legs. And then a Collie will go and sit on the foot of the chosen one. It is wonderful to watch. Some of the herding dogs are huge barkers. Archer is not one of them. He does alert his people to outside comings and goings, delivery trucks and such. And he will alert when the doorbell rings. Families with prior Collie experience will be reviewed first in hopes of making the best possible match for Archer. I hope when Archer has chosen his human, we will get photos of them together. He will put that big old head of his under someone's arm and smile. That is how we will know it is forever!

Overview:
The Collie, a majestic and intelligent breed, originates from Scotland where they were primarily used for herding sheep. Known for their striking beauty, Collies typically possess a long, flowing double coat that comes in a variety of colors including sable and white, tricolor, and blue merle. They have a graceful, athletic build, with a distinctive long muzzle and expressive eyes. In terms of temperament, Collies are renowned for being incredibly loyal, gentle, and highly trainable, making them excellent companions. Their affectionate nature makes them particularly well-suited for families with children, though their need for moderate exercise means they thrive in homes with yards, rather than cramped apartment living. While generally a healthy breed, potential owners should be aware of a predisposition to certain conditions like Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) and drug sensitivities. With proper care and training, a Collie will enrich any household with their devoted companionship and bright personality.
