Description
Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees / Australian Shepherd / Mixed (short coat). Adoption Fee: 550. Thanks for your interest in a pet from A.R.F.! If you see a pet here, they are still available for adoption and you should apply through our adoption application on our website at .arf-il/adopt/application/ Greta is a 4 month old female Great Pyrenees and Australian Shepherd Mix who weighs in at 30 pounds. This pup's adoption fee is $550. If you are still interested, please read more below. Greta is a gentle and sweet pup. She is a delight to have around. She’s a great communicator – and will let you know when she’s ready to play, ready to eat (how she likes her meals prepared), and ready to go outside. Don’t worry, if a wee pad is around, she’ll gladly use that instead. Greta prioritizes her beauty sleep and enjoys a pampered life of daily full body rubs and snuggles. Playtime is her favorite time of the day. She loves playing fetch or running around in the yard and plays well with others or by herself. Due to her size, she'll do well in families with older children or adults only. She is truly an in-GRETA-ble pup and will make a great addition to the family. This pup is micro-chipped, up to date on all vaccinations, and spayed. The new family will be required to complete a basic obedience course of their choosing. Please note ARF does not approve applications for any puppy under 6 months of age to families that live outside of Illinois and/or beyond 100 miles of Wheaton or Glen Ellyn, IL. A meeting will not be scheduled until you have an approved application, so if you're interested in adopting this pup fill out an online application today! .arf-il/adopt/application/ Once your application has been approved, an ARF volunteer will contact you to arrange a meeting. Breed overview
Overview:
The Aussie Pyrenees is a striking hybrid that combines the herding instincts of the Australian Shepherd with the guardian nature of the Great Pyrenees. Originating as a designer mix, this breed is known for its large size, often weighing between 50–110 pounds, with a thick double coat that can come in a variety of colors including white, cream, brindle, and tri-color. Their temperament blends loyalty, intelligence, and protectiveness, making them devoted family companions who thrive in active households. While affectionate and gentle with children, they can be wary of strangers, so early socialization is important. Due to their size and energy, they are best suited for homes with spacious yards rather than apartments. With proper care, they enjoy a lifespan of 10–15 years, though owners should watch for potential health concerns such as hip dysplasia and joint issues common to large breeds.
