Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Meet Kaia! Kaia is a 6 year old American Bully weighing approximately 54 pounds who is ready to find the loving home she deserves. After spending 201 days in our care, she is now one of our Diamond Dogs, and her adoption fee has been reduced to just $75. Kaia came to us when her family relocated for the military. Through it all, she has remained gentle, loving, and hopeful. She is house trained, crate trained, and happiest when she's spending quiet time with her people or soaking up belly rubs. Kaia does well with calm, older dogs that respect her space. A meet and greet is required for homes with resident dogs. She is spayed, microchipped, current on her vaccinations, and heartworm positive. Thanks to Rockwall PAWS, her heartworm treatment is sponsored. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
