Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed. Meet Kaia! Kaia is a 6-year-old female American Bully weighing approximately 43 pounds. She came to the shelter through no fault of her own after her family experienced a change in military orders to a state where her breed is not permitted on base. Because of this unexpected change, Kaia is now looking for a new forever home. Kaia is a well-mannered, affectionate girl who does great with other dogs and children. She is both housebroken and crate trained, making her an easy transition into a home environment. Kaia enjoys spending time with family and is happiest when she's getting attention—especially belly rubs, which are her favorite. She is already spayed and will receive her rabies vaccination, microchip and heartworm test on Wednesday, 12/31/25. Kaia is described as a loving, social companion who would make a wonderful addition to a family looking for a loyal and gentle dog. Adoption Fee: $125 The adoption fee includes her spay, microchip, rabies vaccination, heartworm test, and age-appropriate core vaccinations. IMPORTANT NOTICE: All shelter animals are required by Texas state law to be spayed/neutered. RAC completes this procedure at the age of 12 weeks. If you are adopting a pet under the age of 12 weeks or an animal that has not yet been spayed or neutered, you will be required to return the pet to our facility on the agreed upon date set at the time of adoption. This policy is non-negotiable and violation of this health code is a criminal offense.

Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
