Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog. Lincoln is a 14-week-old Shepherd mix with a big, bright personality. Currently weighing about 22 pounds, he’s a funny and playful pup who pounces on his toys like a cat, and when he’s tired, he turns into a total cuddle bug. After being a little shy at first, he’s confident and fully settled into his foster home. Lincoln is still figuring out house training but is making great progress, keeping his kennel clean overnight. He’s kennel trained and does great going into his crate for meals, naps, and overnight. Lincoln loves to play chase with other dogs, but otherwise doesn't have a lot of experience. He does not have much exposure to other dogs, cats, or small children, so a proper introduction would be recommended. Lincoln will be a high-energy dog so he will require a fenced yard in his future home. He's playful 100% of the time, but is just fine playing with toys alone or in his crate. He would love an active family who can help with leash training as well. Lincoln is ready to grow up with a family who can keep up with his playful, high-energy spirit! If you are interested in Lincoln, fill out an application at this link to get the ball rolling - pethavenmn/adopt/adoptable-dogs/dog-adoption-application/ The adoption fee is $550. Adoption fee includes spay/neuter, heartworm/Lyme test, all age-appropriate vaccinations (distemper, rabies, and Bordetella), heartworm and flea/tick preventatives, and microchip implant (including registration). Adoption fees INCLUDE a mandatory sales tax of 7.525%. Age and breed are based on veterinarian and intake professional’s recommendation and not guaranteed as a rescue animal’s history is often unknown. Due to post-adoption services provided, we prefer to adopt within a 150-mile radius of the Twin Cities. However, we will consider up to 250 miles if the foster agrees to travel requirements and staff approval.

German Shepherd Dog

A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
