Description
Dog Breed: Boxer. Hi! My name is Bear II! I am a handsome 9-10 year old flashy fawn boy that is a lovely and calm houseguest in my foster home. I lived in a home prior to rescue life until my owners were transferred out of state and corporate housing wouldn't accomodate me. I may have some arthritis in my right rear hip but I do not let it slow me down! I am your typical boxer boy that loves his people, known to do a little counter surfing to see if there is anything for me, and enjoys romping and playing outside! I am house trained, crate trained, leash trained, doggie door trained, and know basic commands! I am a big boy but very well behaved and am calm and tolerant with children. I am also good with big and small dogs, currently living with a 3 year old boxer who I love playing with! If you think I would make a great addition to your home, contact the rescue today and give them my name because I am waiting to meet you! If you're interested in fostering a dog, please fill out the Foster Application austinboxerrescue/ways-to-help/foster/ If you're interested in adopting a dog, please fill out the Adoption Application austinboxerrescue/adoption-application/ Our volunteers will work with you to find the best dog for your home.

Overview:
The Boxer is a medium-sized, short-haired dog breed of German origin, known for its distinctive appearance and vibrant personality. Physically, Boxers possess a strong, athletic build with a characteristic square head, an undershot jaw, and often a docked tail and cropped ears (though these practices are becoming less common). Their short, glossy coat typically comes in fawn or brindle, often with white markings. Temperamentally, Boxers are renowned for being incredibly loyal, intelligent, and energetic, making them fantastic companions for active families. They thrive on human interaction and can be playful and patient with children, making them excellent family pets. While their energy levels require regular exercise, their adaptability means they can adjust to apartment living if their activity needs are consistently met. However, potential owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to some cancers, heart conditions like cardiomyopathy, and hip dysplasia, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups.
