Sammy's foster mom says he's going to make a fabulous pet for someone willing to give him a chance. His previous homes didn't provide much structure or training so he's grown into a 110lb puppy that's learning how to behave responsibly. Sammy is a 9-month-old blue eyed Great Dane with a whole lot of personality packed into a very big body! He’s active, goofy, and always ready for his next adventure. Because he’s still a growing boy with lots of energy, he’s looking for a home with large-breed experience and people who enjoy staying active. He needs structure, exercise and mental stimulation to live his best life. Sammy is learning his manners and will need continued work on leash skills and basic training, but he’s eager to learn and loves people. He does great with other dogs and makes friends everywhere he goes! Cats are unknown. Due to his size and enthusiasm, older kids would be best—little ones might get accidentally bowled over by so much love. He uses a crate when left alone at home. He loves to be with his people, but will entertain himself with chew toys and bones. ️ Certified snugglebug and proudly delivers the classic Dane lean whenever possible. If you’re ready for laughs, cuddles, and a lovable giant by your side, Sammy might be your guy! Sammy's adoption fee is $350 and an online application can be completed at .texasgreatdane. - IMPORTANT INFORMATION - SASPCA Homeward Bound Dog Rescue and San Antonio Great Dane Rescue are 501(c)(3) foster-based rescue groups based in San Antonio, Texas. Our group focuses on assisting open admission shelters in South Texas where over 32,000 dogs and cats are euthanized each year. Our puppies and dogs are completely vetted and live in foster homes. They are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, and tested for heartworm disease. All adoptions include one month of flea and heartworm preventative and a leash and collar. We also host additional adoption events throughout the year. The Great Dane is an impressive and regal breed, often dubbed the "Apollo of Dogs" for its dignified stature and noble appearance. Originating in Germany, where it was historically bred for hunting boar, this giant breed is renowned for its immense size and striking presence. Physically, Great Danes are characterized by their tall, muscular build, short coat (available in various colors like fawn, brindle, black, blue, and harlequin), and expressive eyes. Despite their formidable size, they possess a surprisingly gentle and affectionate temperament, making them wonderful family companions. They are known for being patient with children and generally get along well with other pets. While their size might suggest otherwise, Great Danes can adapt to apartment living if provided with sufficient daily exercise, as they are not overly energetic indoors. However, prospective owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to bloat (gastric dilatation-volvulus), hip dysplasia, and certain heart conditions, necessitating careful breeding and regular veterinary check-ups.
